Verizon Workers: Over 1 Month on Strike
On April 13, 40,000 Verizon workers went on strike in Washington, D.C., and nine East Coast states from Massachusetts to Virginia. Frustrated after nine months of negotiating a better contract, Verizon workers voted unanimously to strike. They've been on the picket lines for 30 days already, and the Verizon bosses have been using scab labor and the outsourcing of call center work to the Philippines to try and break the strike.
Come discuss how we can overcome the bosses' divide-and-conquer strategies, support the country's largest work stoppage in the last five years, and how other sectors of the working class can follow the Verizonworkers' example.
Love for the People: Eyewitness report from the Philippines people's movement
Come hear organizers Riya Ortiz and Amanda Altman report back on their trip to the Philippines and in particular the organizing strategies of the people's movement in the informal community of Estero Maypajo in Metro Manila.
They will also provide anti-imperialist analysis of the May 12th presidential victory of Rodrigo Duterte who has shaken up traditional Filipino politics and promised an aggressive anti-corruption campaign and a peace deal with Filipino revolutionary forces that have been waging armed struggle in the archipelago for more than 40 years.
