Abby Martin, award-winning journalist and presenter of Breaking the Set and The Empire Files, will be speaking on the struggle against corporate-dominated media. As an artist, journalist and activist, Martin has long worked to create alternative platforms to deliver critical news on the most pressing global issues. Speaking for the first time publicly in New York City, Abby Martin will address the struggle -- both in the media and in the streets.
Pride Means to Struggle: How do we Respond to the Orlando Massacre?
At almost a year since the victory for same-sex marriage, a vicious bigoted massacre has been carried out against the LGBTQ community in Orlando. The important legal and democratic gains of the community have been met with a reactionary wave of discrimination and violence, including the reactionary HB2 in North Carolina -- a bill that targes trans people, legalizes discrimination, and prevents increases to the minimum wage, affecting the LGBTQ community and all workers in North Carolina.
