Liberation Mic Behind the Bars: Black August Edition
In commemoration of Black August we invite you to join us in a special night of spoken word, music and art.
Black August had its origin in the 1970’s in a California prison as a way to acknowledge the political and militant struggles of politicized African American prisoners.
The month of August is also linked to many important defining moments in the Black/African liberation struggle, extending solidarity to all political prisoners here and abroad.
As Mumia Abu Jamal said, “The spirit of Black August moves through centuries of Black, Indian and multi-cultural resistance. It is an emblem of the spirit of freedom.”
Let us come together as a collective and Bring our best poetry, dance, songs or ‘Bars’ as we use our art to learn, spread knowledge and revolutionary optimism.
