Fighting Racism and Sexism - Part II 

Why should the women's movement take up the anti-racist struggle? 

In his first two weeks of presidency, Trump has attempted to push forth with all of his far-right campaign promises from a ban on Muslims to allowing the Keystone and Dakota Access Pipeline to be built. One of the first executive orders that Trump signed a mere 72 hours after he was in office was a policy that prohibits funding from going to nonprofits all over the world that provide family planning and reproductive health services, including abortions. In addition to the direct attack on women's reproductive rights, other reactionary measures like the attack on labor rights under the Trump administration will affect women, who are half the workforce. 

In order to combat the racist and sexist agenda laid out by President Trump we need to build a multi-national women's movement that's anti-racist and tackles the root cause of our oppression, capitalism. In order to better understand how to build this movement, we will study the movements of the past and dispel ideas that obstruct such organizing and lead to division among our ranks. Join us in the second part of our class as we address the question of how fighting racism as a key struggle within the women's movement will strengthen the movement overall.
