LA Forum: Syria, Russia, and the U.S. Empire
During the holidays the U.S. media went into a frenzied uproar against the Syrian government and Syrian Arab Army as they retook the eastern part of the city of Aleppo from U.S.-backed proxy fighters in the region. Since then the Turkish, Russian, and Syrian governments along with some sections of the opposition forces began a ceasefire with promise to begin settlement negotiations excluding the U.S. government.
Parallel to the media blitz against the Syrian government has been the continuous and questionable campaign by Congress and national intelligence agencies to blame the Russian government for the outcome of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election, calling the so-called "hacking" of the election an act of war while demanding repercussions for the Russian government. The beating of the war drums against Russia in the media has been combined with continued NATO/U.S. troop build up across Eastern Europe at Russia's doorstep.
