LA Forum: More than Survival - The Struggle for Women’s Healthcare
More than Survival: The Struggle for Women’s Healthcare, Featuring Candidate for Insurance Commissioner Nathalie Hrizi.
Please join us as we read and discuss the fourth issue of the socialist feminist magazine, “Breaking The Chains: A Socialist Perspective on Women’s Liberation”. The theme of this issue is More than Survival: The Struggle for Women’s Healthcare. The U.S. remains the richest country in the world, yet we are the only developed country without universal healthcare. While this country prides itself on medical advances, the U.S. life expectancy is likely to drop due to the opioid crisis created by big Pharma. Our healthcare system exists to generate profit for the CEOs of giant corporations, while every day people suffer from lack of access to healthcare.
But what is the solution? Join us as we read and discuss the many stories of people fighting for reproductive health care, transgender health care, health care for women of color. We will also discuss what healthcare in an alternative society, a socialist society would look like.
We are also honored to feature Nathalie Hrizi in this discussion - the editor of “Breaking the Chains” and the Peace and Freedom Party candidate for Insurance Commissioner of California. Her platform calls for an end to insurance companies and the need for single payer healthcare now.
