LA Film: Blood on the Mountain

July 08, 2017 at 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Join us for a screening of the documentary film Blood on the Mountain. The film addresses the outright dominance of West Virginia by large resource extraction companies, including discussion of the exploitation of coal miners, poisoning of the local community, and the corporations attempts to divide.

From the time of the Coal Wars to Massey Energy's massacre of coal miners at the hands of Don Blankenship the community has been largely abandoned to the fate meted out by Big Coal, it's political players, and it's poison.

This week the US Congress will look at fast-tracked legislation set to make widespread changes to US energy policy in an attempt to accommodate energy companies and their ongoing boom in fossil fuel production.

Join us for discussion on the history of West Virginia, the bind placed on workers in the energy field by the political dominance of fossil fuel companies, and the fight to save our planet from climate catastrophe.

Limited parking on Westmoreland/8th. Red and Purple line to Wilshire/Vermont station.
