DC Forum and Movie Screening: "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

March 30, 2019 at 4:00pm - 7pm

In the midst of the most recent attempt by the United States to overthrow the democratically elected government of Venezuela, the Justice Center presents a free screening of the 2003 documentary "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," a film detailing in real time the 2002 failed coup attempt against Hugo Chavez.

The Bolivarian Revolution, which began in 1999 and continues today, saw the Venezuelan people say no to neoliberal capitalism and imperialism and fight for their liberation from the clutches of colonial oppression. Not long after, the United States, in its capacity as the center of the modern capitalist empire, decided to retaliate by attempting to overthrow the revolution's chosen leader, President Hugo Chavez.

Irish filmmakers Kim Bartley and Donnacha Ó Briain were in the country at the time, and took the opportunity to document what they saw. The result is an expose of imperialist entitlement and a testament to the people's revolutionary will.
