Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation Tuesday the 25th as we read and continue our discussion of the fourth issue of the socialist feminist magazine, “Breaking The Chains: A Socialist Perspective on Women’s Liberation”. The theme of this issue is More than Survival: The Struggle for Women’s Healthcare.

Last week we didn't get through all the articles, so we will read from the rest of the issue this week. All are welcome! Participation in the first week is not necessary to participate this week.

Capitalism makes us sick. It keeps us sick. It profits from us being sick. Health care in the United States, as in any capitalist system, is commodified. Every aspect of health care — from sickness and health to medicines and doctor’s visits to insurance and research — is constructed around generating huge profits for a tiny group of bankers and CEOs. Women’s bodies are controlled. For all people who identify as women, their bodies are restricted by the lack of health care rights in the United States.

But what is the solution? Join us as we read and discuss the many stories of people fighting for reproductive health care, transgender health care, health care for women of color. We will also discuss what healthcare in an alternative society, a socialist society would look like.

No reading is required ahead of time to participate. We will provide copies of the reading.

We will be located in the upstairs meeting room of Poor Richards. Go through the restaurant and out the back door on the left. Go up the outside stairs, and we are in the room straight down the hallway from the door.
