The chilling, uninterrupted murderous campaign of police departments against Black people nationwide has once again rocked the conscience of the country. The struggle against police brutality has reached a new boiling point, with the murder by police of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Delrawn Small and now Alva Brazile, all caught on camera for the world to see.
In joining the calls for justice coming from Louisiana and Minnesota, local protesters have highlighted the countless number cases of police brutality that don't catch national headlines. In Massachusetts, at least 98 people have been killed by police since 2001 and countless more have been brutalized and falsely arrested.
After a lone sniper gunned down five police in Dallas, the movement has been met with calls from the media and politicians to suspend demonstrations. But communities rising up have refused to stop marching and be silenced. Police harassment and abuse continues unabated, while Dallas is being used to as a pretext to increase police repression of peaceful demonstrations in Baton Rogue and elsewhere.
