Albuquerque: Ayotzinapa Anniversary - Film and Discussion
Film showing: The Guerrilla and the Hope: Lucio Cabañas
A documentary about Lucio Cabañas, a rural teacher from southern Mexico turned guerrilla leader. Founder of Partido de los Pobres (Party of the Poor), Cabañas and his guerrillas waged a campaign of armed struggle, expropriations, and kidnappings against the elites, acquiring a legendary status on par with Zapata and Villa. Murdered by the Mexican state in 1974 as part of its Dirty War against dissidents, Cabañas is remembered to this day for his commitment to the masses of Mexico.
Join the PSL for a discussion of the film, along with discussion of the two-year anniversary of the disappearance, with state complicity, of 43 students from the rural teachers college in Ayotzinapa, where Cabañas was an alumni.
